Constitutional Court will announce its decision at 3pm

The Constitutional Court will make public its decision over MP Mihai Godea’s application concerning the legality of the December 16 presidential elections and the Parliament’s decision whereby new elections were set for January 15 at 3pm, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Court examined the lawmaker’s application on January 12. Mihai Godea said that the secrecy of voting was infringed on December 16 as the MPs were forced by the political leaders to show how they voted. The special commission and the legislative body were to stop these abuses and to invalidate the ballots of those who violated the confidentiality of voting. “The violation of the voting procedure transformed the presidential elections from a solemn constitutional procedure into a formal process marked by vices and a process of obscure negotiations and abusive influences,” said Mihai Godea. On the other hand, the Parliament’s representative Sergiu Chirica said that the special commission for organizing the presidential elections created all the conditions and guarantees needed to ensure the secrecy of voting in the December 16 elections. The MPs cannot be prevented from showing the ballots. If the Constitutional Court decides that the voting procedure was violated, the January 15 elections will not take place and the Parliament will have to announce new ordinary presidential elections.
