The Consulates General of the Republic of Moldova in Sacramento and Chicago, in the United States, were officially opened According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the opening of the consulates is a clear proof of the commitment to be closer to the Moldovan citizens, wherever they are, IPN reports.
Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the inauguration of the Consulate General in Sacramento, which, according to him, is an essential step in strengthening the support provided to Moldovan citizens in the U.S. The consular office will serve the diaspora in the western U.S. and will provide Moldovans in that area with fast services, excluding the need to travel long distances.
The consulate in Sacramento will be headed by Maxim Arghir. The consulate will offer a wide range of services, such as the issuance and renewal of Moldovan passports, as well as assistance for Moldovan citizens in emergency situations. Notary services and civil status documents will also be provided. Another objective is to promote the economic and cultural relations between Moldova and the US.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured that it will continue to expand and improve its consular network in order to better meet the needs of Moldovans around the world, offering them quality services. Mihai Popșoi his expressed gratitude to the American authorities for the support provided in the opening of this consulate.
During the event, Mihai Popșoi had a discussion with Moldovan citizens and told them about the development plans of the Republic of Moldova. He stressed that the integration into the big family of the European Union is the only solution for the future of the county. Members of the Moldovan community noted that, although they are far from home, they support this path of the country.
The official inauguration of the Consulate General of the Republic of Moldova in Chicago was attended by Speaker of Parliament Igor Grosu. "We promised and we did! After many years of waiting, the flag of the Republic of Moldova was hoisted on the building of the new Consulate in Chicago. It is a step forward for the Moldovan community there and I strongly believe that this consulate will become a second home for them," said the head of the legislature.
The new consular office will facilitate the access of Moldovan citizens in the Midwest region to essential consular services, such as the issuance of identity documents, notary services, consular assistance and other administrative procedures.
According to the MFA, the opening of this consulate reflects the Moldovan authorities’ constant commitment to promptly respond to the needs of citizens abroad, to strengthen the connection with the diaspora and to promote national interests in one of the country's most important partner spaces.
