Consumer Protection Agency launches awareness-raising campaign

The Consumer Protection Agency has initiated an awareness-raising campaign for economic entities following the toughening up of the penalties for those who infringe consumers’ economic rights, Info-Prim Neo reports. Harsher penalties will be imposed for breaking the term for dealing with a complaint, the refusal to replace the inappropriate products and the appropriate products with similar ones, and the failure to place the register of complaints in a visible place. During November 26-30, inspectors will go to shopping centers and markets in Chisinau and distribute information about the latest legislative amendments concerning the protection of consumers to economic entities. The aim of the campaign is to inform the economic entities, but also to heighten consumers’ awareness so that they know their rights and obligations. Every seller or service provider is obliged by law to put the booklet with information about the state consumer protection authority – the Consumer Protection Agency - including its hotline, address and email, in a visible place for consumers. The law also obliges the companies to put in a visible place the register of complaints registered as required. The consumers can write there their complaints and the seller or provider has to deal with them within the period set by law.
