Czech Republic supports Moldova’s accession to EU, Czech official

The Czech Republic supports the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union and highly appreciates the progress the country is making and how it manages to complete different chapters in this process. Statements to this effect were made by the President of the Czech Senate, Miloš Vystrčil, in a press conference together with his Moldovan counterpart.

The Czech official stated that he reached consensus with his Moldovan counterpart regarding the fight against corruption in both countries and regarding guaranteeing the freedom of the press in the current context. He also discussed in Chisinau about energy autonomy and independence. The official noted that both countries were dependent on Russian gas in the past, but along the way they managed to get rid of this dependence.

This year, the Czech Republic marked 20 years since its accession to the EU. Miloš Vystrčil says that at that time there was a brave decision on the part of the member countries. The official believes that now, too, a courageous decision is needed for accepting the countries that meet the accession requirements. One of these countries is the Republic of Moldova.

For his part, the president of the Moldovan Parliament, Igor Grosu, noted the very good dynamics of relations with the Czech Republic at the level of parliaments, governments, presidents of the country. The Republic of Moldova counts on the support of the Czech Republic in the official launch of the negotiation process for EU accession.

The two officials discussed the situation in Ukraine and the impact on the Republic of Moldova. They exchanged views on disinformation campaigns, attempts to corrupt politicians by the Russian Federation and how countries can respond to this hybrid war.
