The mayor elect of Chisinau municipality Dorin Chirtoaca said he will suggest forming a coalition in the Chisinau Municipal Council, which will serve as an impetus to forming a government coalition. He made such a statement in the program “In Depth” on PRO TV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.

‘”I will personally put forward the initiative to form a coalition with the pro-European parties in the Chisinau Municipal Council. The formation of a coalition in the Council will stimulate the creation of the government coalition. History shows that the formation of the pro-European ruling alliances starts from the Chisinau Council,” said the mayor.

Chirtoaca noted he will not provide posts in exchange for the consent to form a coalition in the Council. “The employees of the Chisinau City Hall are public functionaries employed by contest for an indefinite period. We cannot fire them. We can do it only if we modify the organogram, but this change must also be justified. There is now no need to do this. I think only the posts of deputy mayor can be divided according to political criteria,” he stated.

As to Socialists’ refusal to recognize the outcome of the elections in the municipality of Chisinau, the Liberal heavyweight said this is a reaction of his former opponents who lost the elections. “The Party of Socialists spent €1 million in the local elections. Now they will be put in the situation to show where they took this money from and to answer in accordance with the law if the money came from abroad,” added Chirtoaca.

Asked about his plans as mayor of Chisinau, Chirtoaca said he will divide the existing problems into three categories: those that can be solved together with his team, those that can be solved together with the Chisinau Municipal Council and those that are within the competence of the central public administration.
