The candidates who want to run in the June 5 local elections could present the files for being registered as election runners by 5pm on May 5. In Chisinau, Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca was the last to submit the documents. He reached the head office of the Chisinau district electoral council 8 minutes before the closing of the program, Info-Prim Neo reports. The same day, the documents were filed by independent candidate for mayor of Chisinau Mihai Godea. During only two days, he managed to collect about 13,000 signatures from his supporters. Another candidate who lodged the documents Thursday was Marcel Darie, of the Law and Justice Party. As a result of the draw, it was decided that Marcel Darie will take the 13th position in the ballot, Dorin Chirtoaca – the 14th, while former first vice president of the PLDM Mihai Godea will close the lists of candidates for the mayoralty of Chisinau. The Chisinau district electoral council has seven days to examine the files of the three candidates and register them officially. Thirteen independent candidates for Chisinau councilor submitted the documents on May 5.Among them is the chairman of the Civil Society Congress Fiodor Ghelici. Three parties also presented the lists of candidates for seats on the Chisinau Council. They are the People’s Democratic Party, the Law and Justice Party, and the electoral bloc “Third Force”. A number of 35 parties and independent candidates will compete for the 51 posts of municipal councilor. The last 16 are yet to be registered.
