Hearing in case of Filat interrupted, only one witness questioned

The hearing in the case of ex-Premier Vlad Filat set for March 15 was interrupted at the request of the accused, who said that he feels ill. Adriana Betisor told the press that only one of the four witnesses of the prosecution was questioned, IPN reports.

“Only one witness was questioned because the accused intervened and said that he feels ill. We have no confirmation in this respect, but the court decided to offer him time for examinations,” stated Adriana Betisor.

As to lawyers’ statements about the necessity of making the hearings public, the prosecutor said the public opinion is actually manipulated by such requests. “Those who say that they want public hearings know that the law does not allow something like this. In reality, they do not want these hearings to be public, but insist on this so as to continue to manipulate,” she stated, adding that the defense manipulates when saying that some of the witnesses have an inappropriate behavior and when making other details public. According to Adriana Betisor, this way they want to intimidate the witnesses that are to be questioned.

Lawyer Igor Popa said the prosecution’s witnesses are untrustworthy persons who work for Ilan Shor. “I didn’t manage to put all the questions as the hearing was adjourned. Vlad Filat became sick. He is pale and suffers from dizziness. It’s normal to allow him to have some examinations so as to continue the hearing afterward. We will insist that a doctor from outside the penitentiary should examine him. But we will wait to see what the penitentiary doctor says first,” he stated.

After Vlad Filat examined, it will be decided when the hearing will continue. According to the prosecutor, this could be resumed tomorrow, March 16.
