Hiding of Paciu’s killing can be regarded as abuse of power

The head of the Legal Resources Center of Moldova Vlad Gribincea said the hiding of Sorin Paciu’s killing can be regarded as abuse of power and exceeding of authority by the prosecutor general as Valeriu Zubko took part in the hunting in the Domneasca Forest, where the young man was wounded mortally. “Hiding something is not an offense, but if something is hidden by a public person, it is abuse of power. It depends what this person is accused of. Some said that the case was taken from one prosecutor and given to another, that an order was made not to start a criminal case,” the jurist stated for de Info-Prim Neo. Vlad Gribincea said that under the law, the information about the way an investigation is held is confidential, but there is public interest in the December 23 hunting. “Not the killing was hidden, but the fact that certain persons took part in the hunting,” he stated. The case was made public on January 6 by politician Sergiu Mocanu. He said then that the shooting was hidden because the prosecutor general is to blame for it. The Prosecutor’s Office started a criminal case, accusing the former vice president of the Chisinau Court of Appeals Gheorghe Cretu, who also took part in the hunting, of unintentional murder. The exceeding of authority and abuse of power are punished wit a fine and up to three years in jail.
