The leader of the parliamentary group of the Socialists Igor Dodon will submit in Parliament a bill providing for the election of the lawmakers by a joint system. In a news conference on November 23, the MP said the dependence on the party chiefs is one of the greatest problems of the politicians, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Many of the MPs are more responsible to the party heads that included them in the electoral list than to the voters. Owing to this dependence, the lawmakers promote not the people’s, but the party’s interests. The situation was much the same the previous years, but the current political crisis showed how serious it is in reality,” Igor Dodon said. He also said that he knows MPs of the ruling alliance and the Communist Party who want to vote for the head of state, but do nothing because they are afraid of the party. “Consequently, the entire legislative body is hostage of the ambitions or misunderstandings of three-four party leaders. The political crises derive from here. That’s why we think that the procedure for forming the components of Parliament must be modified,” said Igor Dodon. Under the joint system, the MPs will be 50% elected under party lists and 50% in uninominal constituencies. Besides the 50 lawmakers elected under party lists, there will be 51 MPs elected directly by the people from every district. Igor Dodon said the presidential elections should take place in December. He reiterated that the group of the Socialists will support only an apolitical candidate for President. “The procedure for electing the head of state should start as soon as possible, in December. The President can be elected only if all our partners realize that only an apolitical candidate can poll the necessary number of votes,” he stated. Igor Dodon stressed the Party of Socialists that he joined is convinced that Zinaida Greceanyi is a suitable candidate for the presidency.
