Initiative group for abrogating mixed electoral system submits documents for registration

The initiative group for holding the legislative referendum on the abrogation of the law by which changes were made to the Election Code to introduce the mixed-member electoral system submitted again the documents required for registration to the Central Election Commission (CEC).

The CEC has 15 days to examine the set of documents and announce if it will register or not the group that will collect signatures in favor of holding the referendum, IPN reports.

The members of the initiative group were selected in a special meeting on February 11. If the CEC registers it, this will have to collect, within 2-3 months, at least 200,000 signatures in favor of the referendum.

The procedure for creating the initiative group was rerun after the CEC earlier refused the registration, invoking violations in the group constitution procedures.
