The outgoing chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Iurie Ciocan was fielded as a candidate for the post of member in the new composition of the Commission, instead of Eduard Raducan. The latter withdraw his candidacy in favor of the post of director of the Center for Personal Data Protection, IPN reports.
Democratic MP Sergiu Sarbu filed an amendment to modify the draft decision on the composition of the CEC. This was supported by the Parliament’s commission for appointments and immunities in its June 15 meeting. According to Sarbu, Iurie Ciocan was proposed by the parliamentary alliance.
Thus, the nominal composition of the CEC that is to be presented to Parliament for examination includes: outgoing CEC members Iurie Ciocan, Vasile Gafton and Andrei Volentir, former deputy minister of justice Sergiu Gurduza, Chisinau councilor Maxim Lebedinschi, who is the jurist of the Party of Socialists, MP consultant Veaceslav Agrigoroae, jurist and division head at a limited liability company Rodica Ciubotaru, the chief of staff of the head of the Communist parliamentary group Alina Russu, and Vladimir Sarban, who is the candidate fielded by President Nicolae Timofti.
The terms in office of the outgoing CEC members expired on February 11, 2016.
