Iurie Leanca to meet with Dmitry Medvedev

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca will take part in the meeting of CIS heads of government that will take place in Minsk, Belarus, on May 30. In a news conference, the Premier voiced hope that he will be able to discuss with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev the sanctions that Moscow can impose on Chisinau, IPN reports.

“We want a good, constructive and pragmatic relationship with Russia, based on mutual respect. For Chisinau, the relation with Moscow is very important and we hope that the building of a relationship based on these principles is an important objective for Moscow too,” said Iurie Leanca.

In the same news conference, President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy said the EU condemned the statements and visits made by high-ranking officials who support the illegal attempts of the separatists. The European Union considers that these actions contributed to the escalation of tensions in Ukraine an in other states of the region. “The EU calls on the sides to refrain from violence and provocations,” he stated.

Earlier, the Russian press reported that Dmitry Medvedev threatened Moldova with economic sanctions after the Moldovan authorities searched the plane of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin. According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Dmitry Rogozin paid a private visit to Moldova.
