Lib-Dem mayors, councilors meet behind closed doors

The freshly elected mayors, district and municipal councilors representing the Liberal-Democratic Party on Saturday, June 25, gathered for a meeting behind closed doors to discuss, together with the party's leadership, strategies and plans for local-level alliances, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Yesterday's dispute and other disputes that will follow, as well as other actions, will not affect the creation of alliances at local level”, stated Lib-Dem leader Vlad Filat, before the meeting, referring to the frictions with the Democratic Party. “The law will continue to govern in Moldova, and alliances will be created”. According to Vlad Filat, the meeting participants will sum up campaign activities and will discuss strategies for post-election actions. “It is natural to have such a meeting, because these people were elected by the people, they were granted these mandates and they have to have something to say”, said Filat, adding that the consultations with the party's local elected members would likely result in some decisions. Immediately after the recent local elections, the Liberal-Democratic Party, the Democratic Party and the Liberal Party announced they would consolidate the European Integration Alliance at local levels. Later, however, the Lib-Dems and the Democrats accused each other of plotting to create alliances, including at central level, with the Communists. Further, Vlad Filat said on Friday that the Democratic Party's vice-president Vlad Plahotniuc was the man who, during the election campaign, he dubbed the Puppeteer, for his alleged secret influence exerted in the Moldovan political and business life.
