The Liberal MPs registered a draft Statement on Moldova’s Union with Romania in Parliament, the leader of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu announced in a news conference, IPN reports.
According to Mihai Ghimpu, the Liberals asked Moldova’s Parliament to convene a meeting for March 27, when it is the 100th anniversary of the union of the Moldovan Democratic Republic with Romania. The legislative body was requested to adopt the Statement on Moldova’s Union with Romania as the union is the only solution for restoring the historical truth, for joining the European Union and for integrating into NATO so as to ensure the welfare and freedom of the population from the left side of the Prut. The decision to register such a statement was taken in the March 12 meeting of the Liberal Party’s National Council.
Mihai Ghimpu said that if Parliament refuses to examine and adopt the Statement on Moldova’s Union with Romania, the Liberal Party’s Political Bureau will undertake to collect signatures from citizens so as to achieve the union desideratum. “If the statement is not signed, the laws of Romania should then pass the Prut,” stated the politician.
Asked if the Liberal Party’s National Council discussed potential candidates who will run in the local mayoral elections in Chisinau and Balti, Mihai Ghimpu said the subject hasn’t been raised and Liberals’ candidates will be made public in another news conference.
Symbolical statements on the union with Romania have been signed so far in over 110 Moldovan communities.
