Lupu: Parliamentary hearings are sought for score-settling

Moldova's acting President Marian Lupu suggests that the attempts to organize public parliamentary hearings on the recent corporate raid incidents are undertaken for the sole purpose of settling some old scores or exploiting the created situation to achieve some narrow interests, Info-Prim Neo reports. Lupu thinks that such hearings won't improve the situation, but rather will worsen it. He also suggests conspiracy for triggering snap elections might be behind these attempts. “Coincidence or not, several days after the Liberal Democrats requested it, the Communists also asked for an extraordinary sitting, but neither of them advanced solutions and practical decisions”, he said, adding: “The goal of the parliamentary opposition (IPN: the Communist Party) is to destabilize the situation, the worse the better, so that it would eventually trigger early elections”. Lupu reiterated that the interested parties should rather put forward legislative measures and solutions to solve the issue. Earlier this week, both the Lib-Dems and the Communists called for an extraordinary meeting to quiz relevant officials, after four Moldovan banks were subjected to separate raider attacks over the last month. While the Lib-Dem faction has an insufficient number of members to use the privilege of convening an extraordinary meeting, the Communists have more than the required one-third on MPs in Parliament. However the Parliament's Standing Bureau on Friday rejected the Communists' request, citing technical reasons.
