Maia Sandu addresses police

The freshly appointed prime minister Maia Sandu is calling on the police, the carabineers’ troops and other law enforcement subdivisions to refrain from interfering with the normal functioning of state institutions. During a press briefing, Sandu noted that “a new leadership of Parliament has been elected and a new Government has been invested” which  “represent the legitimate power of the country, supported by the majority of citizens and development partners, and the exercise of its functions should take place in a democratic and peaceful atmosphere”.

Maia Sandu is urging everybody to abstain from participating in blocking the activity of government institutions. “The tents installed today and yesterday is proof that the Democratic Party is willing to use the law enforcement bodies to throw the country into chaos and protect a single person – Plahotniuc. They don’t want to see a peaceful transition of power. The order given by Plahotniuc now are illegal. Mr Cavcaliuc, Mr Pânzari, Mr Echimov, I call on you not to follow Plahotniuc’s illegal orders. Don’t put people’s lives at risk for the sake of a man who has lost his mind”, stated Maia Sandu.

Sandu said she has not become prime minister in order to retaliate, but to “make things right and ensure the rule of law”. “We guarantee you than no one will be in trouble. Your jobs are safe. But above the duty to follow your superiors’ orders is your duty to observe the law. Your superiors’ orders today are illegal”, stated the politician.
