The leader of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu said that in the October 22 meeting of the Alliance for European Integration, which was held during the Parliament’s sitting, their colleagues from the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) demanded that the director of the National Anticorruption Center (NAC) and the prosecutor general should be immediately dismissed or they will withdraw from the alliance. Lupu told the press that by such unilateral actions, the PLDM intends to generate early elections, IPN reports.
Marian Lupu said that in a meeting of the leaders of the AEI at the beginning of this week, Lib-Dem Valeriu Strelet asked for support for the initiatives to dismiss the two functionaries, but their proposal wasn’t supported. He explained that in such a situation these dismissals are inadmissible and these could be examined only after the investigation into the bank frauds is completed. According to Lupu, after the Democrats and the Liberals stated this position, the PLDM took unilateral actions, among which is the Premier’s requisition to the head of state to dismiss the director of the NAC.
The Democrats’ leader said that by such acts the PLDM shows its intention to cause early legislative elections, while by the conditions imposed by it this party probably wants to influence the investigation. This way, the colleagues from the PLDM want to justify their withdrawal from the alliance and this decision was most probably already taken. A part of the PLDM’s proposals are similar to Socialists’ initiatives and the two parties may plan to join efforts to push the country towards early elections. In the possible elections, the PLDM could form a bloc with the Platform “Dignity and Truth”, if this becomes a party.
The leader of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu said the Liberals will not support their Liberal-Democratic colleagues in their efforts to obtain the dismissal of the NAC director and the prosecutor general for the reason that the investigation into the stealing at Banca de Economii must be brought to an end. The Liberals also proposed dismissing the two functionaries earlier, but then their colleagues from the PLDM didn’t support such an initiative. They reacted immediately after the arrest of Vlad Filat. These issues could be examined only when the investigation is completed.
