Mihai Ghimpu calls on head of state to intervene in AEI crisis
The Liberal Party head Mihai Ghimpu called upon President Nicolae Timofti to intervene and help overcome the crisis that struck the Alliance for European Integration. “I ask you to use your constitutional powers,” the Liberal leader said in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Given the situation of the alliance, I think it’s time for Mister President Timofti to intervene. We should meet as this is the role of a head of state. When the Government and Parliament are in situations of crisis, the head of state must come out and say: you voted for me and I went with you because I accepted the government program and the European integration, and I accepted to fight corruption and smuggling, not what is going on,” said Mihai Ghimpu.
He also said that the most important thing for him and for the Liberal Party is the alliance, whose image is now discredited. The Liberal leader made also a call to his colleagues from the alliance. “I ask them to stop it, or, if they have arguments, they should provide them and we will discuss,” stated Mihai Ghimpu.
He also called on the whole political class and the mass media. “Now that we constituted the parliamentary commission of inquiry into the hunting incident in the Domneasca Forest, we should stop speculating on this tragic case. We should wait to see what the commission says,” said Mihai Ghimpu.
Mihai Ghimpu offered his condolences and apologized to the family of the young man who died after he was wounded during the December 23 hunting. The former vice president of the Court of Appeals Gheorghe Cretu is investigated in this case for accidental killing.
