The chairman of the Democratic Action Party Mihai Godea will not take part in the March 16 presidential elections because they, according to him, represent an amoral political game. In a press briefing on Thursday, he said that he was contacted by phone by Acting President Marian Lupu and invited to the March 15 meeting of the AEI, but he stressed the chances that he will change his position are minimum, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The main argument why we will not take part in the elections is simple – Moldova must be a democratic state with established rule of law, where there is justice and political pluralism. The current parliamentary majority did not make sure that the given principles are respected, resorted to dubious practices and made the state institutions to significantly lose credibility,” said Mihai Godea. According to the lawmaker, the ruling alliance used different stratagems to amend the Constitution and adjusted the rules of electing the President in order to create convenient legal-political conditions for promoting their interests. “There were set new voting rules and employed unconstitutional procedures for electing the head of state,” said the unaffiliated MP. Mihai Godea stressed that his participation in elections would mean accepting what will happen after the elections. “The avoiding of early elections will not lead to reforms and will maintain the current situation with which we do not agree,” he stated. He also said that every day the politicians show that they care only about their interests, principles, values and truth. “We are different. For us, the people and the country are more important. The March 16 elections represent an amoral political game. They will take place as a result of dishonest agreements reached by the politicians. We thank them for not involving us in these games,” said the chairman of the Democratic Action Party.
