In a regional context marked by information wars, propaganda and hybrid attacks, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi emphasizes how important it is to promote critical thinking and develop media literacy, considered vital in the fight against disinformation and manipulation of public opinion.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, education is the fundamental tool through which citizens can become more resilient to toxic narratives and hostile external influences.
The only real remedy is open and transparent communication, as well as serious investments in education - in the development of critical thinking, in the knowledge of our history, both recent and distant,” the official stated in an interview with IPN.
The Deputy Prime Minister drew attention to the fact that the Republic of Moldova has been facing an avalanche of false information and propaganda narratives for many years, especially from the Russian Federation. They aim to destabilize society, divide public opinion and undermine the country's European path.
“It is important to identify authentic sources, and not various "speakers" who often come with a hidden agenda,” noted Mihai Popșoi.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, media literacy becomes not only an option, but a national priority. "We must cultivate this civic spirit and critical thinking from a young age - something that is already happening to some extent," said Mihai Popșoi.
The official also said that "it takes time, patience and active involvement from everyone – politicians, local leaders, the mass media and civil society – to build an informed, resilient society firmly oriented towards European values."
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, as the European integration process advances, increasing society's resilience becomes an absolute priority.
