Nonaffiliated MP Vasile Bolea, a member of the Revival Party, on Tuesday notified the Central Election Commission of the distribution of newspapers about the pro-European referendum by the Party of Action and Solidarity. He argued that he wants to ensure the fairness and integrity of electoral processes in the country, IPN reports.

“As a citizen concerned about the observance of the laws and democratic norms, I considered it imperative to report the violation of the Electoral Code by those who are in power. The distribution of these newspapers by PAS flagrantly violates the law, and the CEC should pronounce on this and penalize these “fighters for democracy”, said Vasile Bolea.

He voiced hope that the CEC will conduct a thorough and objective investigation to establish whether there are grounds for penalizing the PAS in accordance with the legal provisions.

Contacted by IPN for a comment, the head of the CEC’s Communication, Public Relations and Media Division Rodica Sîrbu said that such a complaint had been registered and is to be examined within the time limits set by law and in accordance with the agreed procedures.
