In the Republic of Moldova, there will be 14 local prosecutors' offices and three district prosecutors' offices, instead of the current over 30 district prosecutors' offices. The concept for the reorganization and optimization of the structure of the Prosecutor's Office system was presented to the Superior Council of Prosecutors, IPN reports.

Prosecutor General Ion Munteanu said that one of the set goals is to develop the functional capacities of the prosecutor's office. It goes to the streamlining of the management capacities, standardization of the practice and workload and improvement of the quality of justice.

"Out of over 30 district prosecutors' offices existing at present, only 14 remain, as well as the three district prosecutors' offices – North, South and Center. As for the district prosecutors' offices, their natural place is not in the composition of the local prosecutors’ offices because they lead and conduct the criminal investigation, represent the prosecution, and the district prosecutors’ offices only ensure the representation of the prosecution at courts of appeals," explained Sergiu Russu, deputy prosecutor general.

According to him, a number of district prosecutors' offices will be thus merged into local prosecutors' offices. "There are criminal phenomena that go beyond the limits of an administrative-territorial unit and, if we approach large-scale criminal phenomena, the efficiency of countering crimes will increase. Moreover, this amendment will determine a future plan for the establishment and consolidation of the headquarters of the local prosecutors' offices – obviously properly equipped offices," stated Sergiu Russu.

Under the new organizational chart, the Prosecutor's Office of Chisinau municipality, with its offices by sector, and the Prosecutor's Office of ATU Gagauzia remain. At the same time, the following will be active: Balti Prosecutor's Office, Edinet Prosecutor's Office, Cahul Prosecutor's Office, Straseni Prosecutor's Office, Causeni Prosecutor's Office, Anenii Noi Prosecutor's Office, Cimislia Prosecutor's Office, Criuleni Prosecutor's Office, Drochia Prosecutor's Office, Hancești Prosecutor's Office, Orhei Prosecutor's Office, Soroca Prosecutor's Office, and Ungheni Prosecutor's Office.

There will also be the North District Prosecutor's Office, the Center District Prosecutor's Office and the South District Prosecutor's Office.
