The Party of Socialists’ candidate for mayor Ion Ceban said that immediately after he is elected mayor of Chisinau, he will make the inspections to see how the municipal institutions, shopping centers and other public facilities are outfitted with fire protection equipment stricter. He promised he will make sure Chisinau is a safe city as an ordinary walk on the streets of the capital can now have a tragic ending, IPN reports.
“Special attention should be devoted to shopping centers, especially those that are converted from enterprise sections. Those that will not respect the security rules will remain without activity authorizations,” Ion Ceban stated in a news conference on April 21.
The candidate said the people must feel safe when they walk on the streets. The buildings erected chaotically, the old constructions left to ruin and the buildings under construction that are not secured pose a real threat to the people. “There were cases when parts fell from these and injured pedestrians. But nothing was done based on a general approach to people’s safety,” said Ion Ceban.
According to him, the security in quarters is another important aspect. He will propose creating video monitoring areas in Chisinau based on public-private partnerships. Ion Ceban also promised to install traffic signs at sidewalks and to light these.
In another development, the Socialist candidate said he will institute strict control over the selection of suppliers of food products to schools, kindergartens and hospitals. He will also launch a municipal project to measure the levels of radiation and air pollution.
