Parliament eliminates post of Chisinau Council chairman
The permanent office of chairman of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) has been abolished by Parliament with the vote of the ruling Alliance, as the Communist Party continued to boycott the legislature's session, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The legislative proposal was submitted by Liberal MP Valeriu Munteanu, who argued that the office of CMC chairman has always been politically pursued, which has caused instability in the Council.
The proposal was adopted in both readings, with a simple majority. As a result, the Chisinau councilmen will select, also with a simple majority, a person to preside over each meeting at a time, alongside the permanent CMC secretary.
