Parliamentary elections will be held on February 24, 2019

The ordinary legislative elections in Moldova will take place on February 24, 2019. A draft decision to this effect was adopted by the legislature on July 27, IPN reports.

Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, when presenting the draft decision, said that under the Constitution, the parliamentary elections are set within three months of the expiration of the legislative body’s mandate. As the mandate of the current Parliament of the 20th legislature expires on November 30, 2018, the legal commission for appointments and immunities suggested holding the elections on February 24 next year.

According to Andrian Candu, the date of February 24 was also chosen because the upcoming elections will be held under a new electoral system, the mixed-member one, and all those who want to run should have sufficient time to prepare.

By another draft decision, the spring - summer parliamentary session was closed. The autumn - winter session starts on September 3.
