PCRM insists: Lupu must set referendum date or resign

The Communist Party insists that Speaker Marian Lupu should have the courage to call an extraordinary meeting of Parliament to set the date of the referendum on Moldova’s accession to the Customs Union Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan. Otherwise, the Speaker is urged to resign. Previously, PCRM demanded an extraordinary meeting to be called on September 13. As their request was denied, the Communist MP and their supporters protested on Monday at the State Residence and at the Ministry of Agriculture, where the Parliament’s Standing Bureau usually assembles. “Our request was neglected. Today, we repeated our demand, this time for September 20. The government must have the courage to see what the people’s opinion would be in the referendum. If Marian Lupu hides from the people, we demand his resignation. He should choose: either to set the date of referendum or resign”, Communist MP Artur Reshetnikov told Info-Prim Neo. According to him, the protests will continue until a Parliament meeting is called or Marian Lupu resigns. The Standing Bureau stated that the PCRM request to call an extraordinary meeting over such an issue lacks legal ground.
