PDM initiates creation of group for correct organization of parliamentary elections

The president of the Democratic Party (PDM) Vlad Plahotniuc requested the MPs of the Democratic parliamentary group to constitute a working group for organizing this autumn’s parliamentary elections in a democratic and transparent way. In a press briefing after the weekly meeting of the PDM, the party’s leader said a set of proposals were formulated for consolidating the democratic character of the legislative elections of 2018 so as to prevent fraud attempts, non-transparent financing or illegal activities in the election campaign, IPN reports.

According to the Democratic leader, the group will be a platform open to opposition parties, civil society, experts and institutions involved in the organization of elections. The Democratic MPs were also asked to discuss with other parliamentary groups and agree the date of elections by the end of May.

The PDM meeting discussed the reorganization of the National Council for Road Traffic Safety into a Coordination Center for Road Traffic Safety that would suggest concrete measures for ensuring road safety. There was also discussed the police abuses against drivers. According to Vlad Plahotniuc, there was a period when these abuses deceased in number, but now there are signals from drivers that the old practices were resumed. He requested the Ministry of the Interior to check these signals.

The weekly meeting also considered the candidacy of the PDM deputy president Cristina Balan for the post of Moldova’s Ambassador to the United States. This was already accepted by the U.S. Department of State.
