PDM’s candidates for parliamentary elections will be chosen by people

The candidates of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) for the November 30 legislative elections will be chosen by the people. The announcement was made by the party’s leader Marian Lupu in a press briefing on September 3. The decision to launch the campaign “You choose the candidates” was taken in a meeting of the Political Executive Council of the PDM, IPN reports.

“The PDM will continue to promote people who represent the whole Moldovan society and who, becoming MPs, will be able to do many good and nice things for the country’s people. It is important that these people be assessed by the citizens and by politicians, their colleagues. This can be done. The people will choose the persons whom they want to see on the election list of the PDM,” stated Marian Lupu.

According to the Democratic leader, it is for the first time in Moldova that a party offers the people the right to choose candidates for the seats of MP. To make the choice, the members and sympathizers of the PDM from all over the country will go to the polling places set up at the party’s local offices on September 28. The list of local organizations is available on the party’s website.

“The party’s list of candidates will be compiled not at the PDM’s head office, but by elections, as a result of the votes cast by the members and sympathizers from all over the country. This way, the PDM brings a novelty and a change on the political arena of Moldova,” stated Marian Lupu. He added that until now the political class didn’t listen to the people who wanted to choose members of Parliament directly. He referred to the party’s bill on the introduction of the uninominal voting system that was rejected by Parliament.

Marian Lupu noted that for this reason, the PDM starts this reform from inside and satisfies the people’s wishes. “I call on all the members of the PDM, sympathizers and friends to take an active part in this open elections. We decided not to delay the introduction of the uninominal voting system and will use such a voting method at party level first,” he stated.

According to him, any reform must begin with the own example. That’s why the PDM is the first party that allows the people to decide the persons who will run for the seats of MP on behalf of the party. “As some in Moldova didn’t want to concede power, we decided to give the people the power, as it actually belongs to them,” said Marian Lupu.

In the recent meeting of the Political Executive Council of the PDM, there was created an internal election commission that will manage the whole voting process. Marian Lupu announced that starting with September 3, representatives of the party will travel to settlements to inform the people about the planned open elections. “This procedure is a novelty and the people must be familiarized with it so that they take an active part in the September 28 elections,” said Marian Lupu.
