Head of Parliament Andrian Candu suggested working out a plan of action for strengthening the institutional and functional capacities of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia. The subject was discussed in a meeting of the Speaker and members of the People’s Assembly of Comrat. According to the Parliament’s press service, the deputies and employees of the People’s Assembly could benefit from fact-finding visits and training in the national parliaments of the EU member states within this plan of action, IPN reports.
“It was the first meeting with the colleagues from the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia and I’m glad that we managed to discuss a number of important subjects. I’m very glad that our colleagues are ready to find solutions and make compromises,” stated Andrian Candu. He expressed his confidence that the creation of a working group for examining the special status of Gagauzia, similar to the group that worked during the tenure of the previous legislature, will offer the platform needed for intensifying communication between Chisinau and Comrat and for ensuring a favorable political and juridical environment for developing the status of the autonomous region.
For his part, the chairman of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia Dimitri Constantinov welcomed the Moldovan Parliament’s readiness to extend cooperation with the deputies from Comrat and expressed his conviction that more results can be obtained by joining efforts.
