Regime provides shelter and protection to separatist leaders, PPPDA

The Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPPDA) demands to investigate and to immediately arrest the former Transnistrian leader Yevgheny Shevchuk and to transparently investigate the activity of the firm Energocapital. The party also demands to determine the role of the representatives of “Plahotniuc’s clam” in artificially increasing the debt for Russian gas and the exaggerated payments for electricity made by Moldovans, IPN reports, quoting a statement by the PPPDA.

According to the statement, Yevgheny Shevchuk continues to stay on the right side of the Nistru and is protected by the Security and Intelligence Service and the Ministry of the Interior of Moldova. “The Plahotniuc regime defies the law, offering tacitly political asylum to an ex-separatist leader who is hostile to the national interests and the interests of the people, showing thus that it has dirty relations with this,” reads the statement.

The party notes that in the autumn of 2014, through the agency of Adrian Candu, who was then minister of economy, Vlad Plahotniuc and Yevgheny Shevchuk struck a deal on the purchase of electric power from the intermediary firm Energocapital (with two employees) based in Tiraspol, which was controlled from offshore areas. “Based on the mafiotic understanding between Plahotniuc and Shevchuk, consuming free Russian gas that was used to generate power for being later sold to the right side of the Nistru, the given firm parasitized on the consumers from the right side,” says the statement.

It also says that while Shevchuk ruled in Transnistria, the debts for Russian gas of Moldovagaz rose from US$ 2.5 billion to US$ 6.5 billion. The citizens of Moldova unjustifiably paid over US$ 120 million to this company that was controlled by Shevchuk together with Plahotniuc.

“Currently, the mafiotic oligarch from Chisinau, controlling the whole coercive system of the state, repays his counterpart from Tiraspol, protecting him and guaranteeing his freedom and security. It’s not clear if Plahotniuc does this in collusion with Dodon, for money or out of fear that his dirty business and fraudulent scheme partner could make particular revelations, but it’s definite that the actions of the hybrid regime, aimed at protecting Shevchuk, run counter to the interests of the overwhelming majority of Moldovans,” says the statement.

Yevgheny Shevchuk on a social networking site wrote that he withdrew to Chisinau. In the Transnistrian region, he is accused of corruption and abuse of power in managing a stabilization fund organized by him in the form of a nonprofit association. The Supreme Soviet of the breakaway republic of Transnistria withdrew his immunity. Later Shevchuk wrote that he left the region because he was persecuted by an influential businessman there.
