Romanian Parliament adopts censure motion against Ungureanu government

The Romanian government headed by Mihai Razvan Ungureanu has fallen on Friday, April 27, after a censure motion was voted by Parliament. According to mediafax.ro, the Ungureanu Cabinet will go down in history as the government with the shortest office – three months – during which it didn’t manage to adopt any major measures, Info-Prim Neo reports. The result of the censure motion was officially announced in the Parliament, with 235 votes for and 9 again, meaning the collapse of the government. The members of the Cabinet weren’t present when the results were announced. Out of 460 legislators, 259 attended the meeting and 248 voted. Four votes were annulled. “I regret I have so many politicians and so few statesmen before me. You are ruining the idea of opposition, which should contribute to constructive solutions. Those who signed the motion are farther from the idea of the European Union than I could have imagined and they want an archaic Romania”, the Prime Minister told the opposition leaders. The seats of opposition lawmakers were almost all empty during Ungureanu’s speech, as there were only 20 MPs from the governing coalition in the assembly hall. Appointed on February 9, Ungureanu prepared a report on his 100 days in office, but didn’t manage to present it in Parliament.
