Anticorruption prosecutors and officers of the National Anticorruption Center continue to perform searches at the domicile of former Prime Minister Vlad Filat. The Center’s spokeswoman Angela Starinschi has told IPN that this is the third series of searches carried out at the home of the Liberal-Democratic MP.
When searching his home earlier, the prosecutors found secret documents belonging to a number of state institutions and papers showing that a number of persons, including politicians, had been followed. The criminal case against Vlad Filat was started based on the self-denouncing statements of the mayor of Orhei, businessman Ilan Shor. The collected proofs substantiate circumstances and facts described by Shor.
On October 15, Parliament voted to deprive Vlad Filat of parliamentary immunity amid allegations of passive corruption and influence peddling. Immediately after the sitting, the Liberal-Democratic heavyweight was arrested for 72 hours. On October 18, the warrant for his arrest was extended for 30 days.
