Foreign propaganda in the Republic of Moldova is accentuated and is one of the instruments used especially by the Russian Federation to impose and achieve particular goals, said experts invited to the talk show “Fabrika” produced by Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
Director of the Resource Center for Human Rights Sergiu Ostaf said the term “propaganda” in Moldova is used to refer to misinformation, lack of pluralism or preferential editorial policy pursued by some of the media outlets with respect to a political player. This notion is not perceived appropriately in the Moldovan public sphere. A goal of propaganda is to keep the people hostage to Soviet mentality.
Doctor of History Ruslan Shevchenko said there are different forms of propaganda in Moldova and these are applied almost exclusively by Russia. Propaganda started to be intensely disseminated through social networking sites, not only through the mass media. “The Moldovan authorities do not pay the necessary attention to this thing even if this is a very important method of informing the population. A lot of people in our country already use social networking sites and leave comments, without realizing that the information coming through these sites influences them and creates false impressions compared with the real situation in the country,” he noted.
