Socialists demand to condemn union statements signed by communities

The Socialist MPs registered in Parliament a draft Statement whereby the adoption by some of the local elected officials of statements on the union with Romania is condemned. The Socialists consider these actions are anti-constitutional and illegal and are designed to liquidate Moldova’s statehood, IPN reports.

In a press release, the Party of Socialists (PSRM) said the given actions are elements of a propaganda campaign conducted by the unionist forces on Moldova’s territory during the last few months.

The Socialists’ Statement condemns mayors’ actions and the lack of reaction on the part of the Security and Intelligence Service, the Ministry of the Interior, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the State Chancellery, the Government and other authorities. By the Statement, the Socialists demand to hold accountable the representatives of the security and law enforcement agencies for the inappropriate fulfillment of their duties.

According to the PSRM, the persons who commit such acts seriously violate the provisions of the Constitution, the Government Law, the Law on the Security and Intelligence Service and of other national laws.

Last weekend, Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu, when asked if he will take part in the meeting of the Supreme Security Council that President Igor Dodon intends to call to condemn the union statements, said he will attend this, but he personally doubts the necessity of convening the Council to discuss such an issue. He noted he does not believe that such symbolic matters should be examined by the Security Council.
