Two Moldovan chefs selected to take part in international gastronomic event

As many as 1,300 chefs from five continents, two of whom Moldovan, on March 19 will prepare French menus in the restaurants where they work. France’s Ambassador to Moldova Pascal Vagogne told a news conference that the initiative was put forward last summer by the famous chef Alain Ducasse, who suggested staging an international gastronomic event to celebrate the French cuisine on March 19, IPN reports.

Five chefs from Moldova submitted their menus to an international jury in Paris. The menus presented by Victor Mitin and Alexei Poleakov were chosen as the best and will be presented to Moldovan gourmands in the evening of March 19, at the price of 850 lei and, respectively, 1,600 lei. The menus will contain such selected produces as foie gras, caviar, duck breast, veal cutlet and asparagus. The food will be combined with French wines.

Ambassador Pascal Vagogne said the French dinner will be held under the theme “Gout de France/Good France” and is a real illustration of the gastronomic feast of the French people, added by UNESCO to the intangible cultural heritage in 2010. “The Embassy of France in Moldova hopes that this gastronomic evening will mark Moldovans’ souls and will contribute to developing the French cuisine in Moldova,” stated the diplomat.

Pascal Vagogne added that the event also aims to promote the chefs around the world and to help them establish cooperation relations.
