The notion of "competition" for public positions in state institutions was totally compromised by the current government, the leader of the European Social Democratic Party (PSDE) stated in a news conference hosted by IPN. Referring to concrete cases of holding competitions to fill key positions in the field of education at district and municipal levels, Tudor Ulyanovski said that most of the competitions are rigged, IPN reports.

"Most of the contests organized by those who are in power today were either rigged, or seriously spoiled, or canceled because the result was not the one they desired," said Tudor Ulyanovski.

The PSDE leader referred to the process of appointing the heads of district and municipal education divisions, after the Ministry of Education decided to lay off 80% of them and to organize competitions to fill these positions. According to him, this initiative caused a wave of criticism throughout the country in 2024.

"Many have understood that this initiative, in fact, is an attack on local autonomy and an attempt to politically subjugate the educational system by placing people loyal to the government in these key positions in the field of education," said the PSDE leader.

According to Tudor Ulyanovski, the competition for the position of head of the education division in Edineț district "was marred by clear abuses and conflict of interests that violate the principle of meritocracy and the law."

The PSDE leader noted that the principle of equal opportunities is violated and, most seriously, the educational system is severely affected and destroyed. The purpose of hiring through competition is for the best trained ones to reach public positions, chosen according to the principle of meritocracy, not by cronyism or due to their loyalty to the PAS.

Furthermore, Ulyanovski said that in Edineț and other districts, the PAS and the PSRM formed coalitions and govern at the local level.
