The head of the General Police Inspectorate Viorel Cernăuțeanu provided details about the escape of the unaffiliated MP Alexandr Nesterovschi to the Transnistrian region, with the support of the Embassy of the Russian Federation. In the program "The Shadow Cabinet", on Jurnal TV, Cernăuțeanu underlined that the video evidence presented by the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) is authentic.
"On March 19, after the court passed its judgement in relation to the convicted Nesterovschi, a search case was immediately started by the Balti Police Inspectorate. The evidence presented by the SIS director is a part of the search case. The video images can be picked up in the original and examined if someone challenges their authenticity," said Viorel Cernăuțeanu.
Referring to the driver who transported Nesterovschi to the embassy, Cernăuțeanu said that this person was questioned as a witness as, at the time of the transportation, the MP had not been convicted yet and had no movement restrictions.
"The driver is a trustworthy person. They have known each other for a long time. But on March 18, when this happened, Alexandr Nesterovshi had no conviction status, no territorial restrictions and benefited from all the principles of free movement. The driver did not take over a convict or a person who dodged," said Cernăuțeanu.
He also explained that the police could not stop the embassy vehicle as Nesterovschi was not yet wanted at that time.
"The search case and all the procedural measures were initiated on March 19, after 05:00 p.m., after the decision was pronounced. Hypothetically speaking, Nesterovschi was in a means of transport with a diplomatic license plate. If we had stopped that vehicle, we would have violated the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. Secondly, let's admit that Nesterovschi was in the minibus. What should we have done? Did he have any status? Was he wanted? No," said Viorel Cernăuțeanu.
On March 19, MP Alexandr Nesterovschi was sentenced to 12 years in prison. A few days before the sentence was issued, Nesterovschi obtained the citizenship of the Russian Federation.
