“Mihai Ghimpu confuses circus with politics, personal affairs with state affairs, national interests with interests of groups and narrow sections of population. What we saw during the last several days makes people feel disgust and believe that politics is something dirty, which is not true because politics is one of the most interesting arts and human occupations,” political analyst Viorel Cibotaru stated for Info-Prim Neo when asked to comment on the political scandal about the casinos.
“In fact, in politics as in other areas, one should express oneself exactly and know the technologies and practices very well. One cannot make accusations against a colleague without reasons. We now started to understand what real fight against corruption is and what corrupt schemes are used in Moldova, what schemes enable political personalities to cause damage to the budget in collusion with civil servants and representatives of the underground world. But the behavior of Mister Ghimpu in this case points to something else than he suggested,” said the political analyst.
Viorel Cibotaru said he does not believe that somebody included the discussed amendment in the law in accordance with a corrupt scheme between politicians and persons in the gambling business, but such a possibility is not excluded.
The analyst said Veaceslav Ionita’s blame resides in the fact that he did not see the difference in treating the rules, but does not consider him a lobbyist of gambling businesses.
The Liberal Party head Mihai Ghimpu and the chairman of the parliamentary commission on economy, budget and finance Veaceslav Ionita, a heavyweight of the Liberal Democratic Party, accuse each other of including an amendment in the Law on the Regulation of Licensing of Entrepreneurial Activities, whereby the tax for a gaming table was reduced from 360,000 to 180,000 lei. The damage caused to the budget as a result of such an act was assessed at 5.6 million lei.
