Will Olesea Stamate remain in PAS parliamentary group or not. What Speaker Grosu says

The decision whether or not MP Olesea Stamate will be excluded from the parliamentary group of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) will be taken in the coming days, the party’s leader Igor Grosu said on Thursday, quoted by IPN.

Speaker of Parliament Igor Grosu told the press that the group had a discussion with Olesea Stamate and each side presented its position. A decision as to whether she will remain in the group is yet to be taken. A political decision was already announced and Olesea Stamate was excluded from the party.

Olesea Stamate was excluded from the PAS following the scandal that arose after it was found out that a number of people convicted of particularly serious crimes were released from prison based on the 2021 Amnesty Law, but also on subsequent amendments that were supported and adopted by the PAS MPs. Olesea Stamate was among the authors of the initiative.

Asked to comment on the fact that the respective legal provisions were approved of also by other MPs, the head of the legislature said that the initiatives came from Olesea Stamate.

At the request of the Prosecutor General, the Constitutional Court suspended the application of the provisions that allow the commutation of the life sentence to 30 years in jail. Earlier, Parliament gave two readings to a legislative initiative that stipulates that the people whose sentence was commuted from life imprisonment to 30 years in prison will no longer be able to apply to the court to have the term they serve reduced.
