Fighting Someone with a different opinion than the Government is censorship – Victor Ponta

Any fight against fake accounts and foreign networks is legitimate, but fighting someone simply for having a different opinion than those in power is censorship. This is the view of Victor Ponta, former prime minister and independent candidate in Romania’s presidential elections.

"Instead of combating fake accounts and foreign networks that manipulate us, Romania is targeting real people who hold different political opinions. That is censorship, and censorship is not what you need in Chisinau," Ponta stated in an interview for IPN.

The presidential candidate expressed his opposition to blocking real accounts. "No matter what opinion you or I have about political leadership, about me, about Ponta - if you are a real person, whether a journalist, politician, or just an interested commentator - there should be no sanctions," he emphasized.

The Romanian official stressed the importance of respecting freedom of expression.

"I believe in freedom of speech, and I believe that every opinion has the right to exist, as long as it does not incite criminal activity. I want freedom of expression to be guaranteed in Romania, and I hope the same is happening in Chisinau," Ponta added.
