Government condemns actions of Transnistrian security forces

The principal, accountant and driver of the Tiraspol Lyceum “Lucian Blaga”, who were arrested by the Transnistrian security forces on suspicion of smuggling, were set free. The six members of the Moldovan peacekeeping contingent who went to the science to clarify the situation and were also arrested were released too. It happened near Parcani village, in the Security Zone.

The Governemnt of Moldova issued a statement describing this unilateral action of the Transnistrian security forces as a premeditated provocation aimed at worsening the situation and at undermining the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, IPN reports.

According to the official Chisinau, this incident forms part of the pressure exerted lately on the Moldovan institutions, including the Latin-script schools working in the Transnistrian region. The peacekeepers’ arrest in the Security Zone represents an unprecedented action and direct defiance of the peacekeeping operation.

The Governemnt announced that the international partners involved in the settlement process were informed about this incident. The episode will be discussed within the dialogue mechanism with the representatives of Tiraspol, including in the Joint Control Commission, as a matter of urgency.
