Opening of NATO Liaison Office postponed until autumn

The opening of the NATO Liaison Office in Chisinau will not take place this month, as it was announced earlier. In a response to an inquiry by IPN Agency, the NATO Information and Documentation Center in Moldova says the inauguration was put off until autumn, but a precise date hasn’t been yet fixed.

“The Office will not be inaugurated in July for technical reasons. All the engineering works have lasted longer than planned, but in autumn the Office will be opened. The fact that the Office’s head Kristina Baleysite met with the Speaker of Parliament of Moldova Andrian Candu shows there is political support for this to be inaugurated,” says the response.

The agreement on the foundation of a NATO Liaison Office was signed by Prime Minister Pavel Filip and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at the NATO Headquarters last November. The NATO Liaison Office will be a civil one. Initially, the inauguration was scheduled for April, but was then transferred to July.
