Law enforcement officers identified the car by which MP Alexandr Nesterovski went to the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Chisinau. The driver was questioned, the head of the General Police Inspectorate (GPI) Viorel Cernăuțeanu said when contacted by IPN for details.
"The driver made statements about all the actions that happened that day. I confirm that we have the statements of that person," said the head of the GPI.
The driver was questioned as a witness. On the evening of March 18, when he took Alexandr Nesterovski to the Embassy, the parliamentarian did not have any restriction on his stay or movement as the sentence was pronounced the next day.
"We cannot say that at that stage, he concealed a crime because there was no search file. But we have the statements on the course of events," said Viorel Cernăuțeanu.
Asked if the driver knew the fugitive MP, the chief of the GPI invoked a "causal link".
"It is obvious that an unknown person could not come to pick you up on the outskirts of the city and simply take you to the city center," added Viorel Cernăuțeanu.
MP Alexandr Nesterovski was sentenced to 12 years in a closed prison and fined 500,000 lei. The decision was pronounced on March 19 by the Buiucani Court of Chisinau City, in the absence of the parliamentarian.
On Monday, March 31, the Security and Intelligence Service announced that the Russian Federation helped Nesterovski to reach the Transnistrian region. A day before the sentence was issued, he entered the precincts of Embassy of the Russian Federation in Chisinau and was then transported by a vehicle with a diplomatic license plate to the Transnistrian region, where he is now, under the direct protection of the Russian intelligence services.
